CASAS: Community-Assisted Singing Analysis and Synthesis
This project researches two aspects often found in a capella choir practice. First, to facilitate the study of repertoire, by means of high-quality sonification of choral scores. For that, the project develops novel singing voice technology specific for choral sound (Spanish and Catalan languages). Second, to conduct research on choir singing intonation problems. This combines behavioral, human-computer and neuroscience approaches to the problem of pitch perception and production in real-life conditions (choir rehearsal, degrading acoustics). The project counts with a 40-member mixed choir in residence at DTIC/UPF, for providing field recording data, participating in perceptual tasks, and testing the developed technologies.
